An Overlooked Aspect of the Election

Amidst the decision to elect the next president of the United States an equally important decision had to be made. On the ballot this election in the District of Columbia, they voted to grant D.C. statehood. In an article by NPR, they explain the decision and what it means for the future. 79 percent of voters voted to pass this bill, ,so the next step has the petition heading to Congress where congressional leaders and president elect Donald Trump, will vote to pass it. This will be the 51st state, and the most recent since Hawaii was added to the Union in 1959.
